Curricula
The Geriatric Fellowship is composed of thirteen 4-week block rotations integrated with longitudinal continuity of care experiences. Block rotations include the following:
- Subacute rehabilitation and long term care at the Ingham County Medical Care Facility (ICMCF). This experience may also include a mentoring experience with faculty who serve as Medical Directors in long term care.
- Ambulatory care. This experience includes primary care for elderly patients and consultative comprehensive geriatric assessment. It may include the opportunity to work with neurologists in the Memory Disorders Clinic and the Movement Disorders Clinic at Michigan State University.
- Inpatient Geriatrics at Sparrow Hospital
- Hospice/Palliative Care
- Geriatric Pyschiatry (including both inpatient and outpatient care)
- Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
Elective rotations – two four-week blocks of the fellow’s choice from a variety of subspecialties.
Longitudinal continuity of care experiences include one half day each week of the following:
- Long term care will be provided for a panel of between 8-12 residents at the Ingham County Medical Care Facility (ICMCF).
- A geriatric continuity of care clinic located at either Michigan State University or Sparrow Health System.
- A primary care continuity experience (either Family Medicine or Internal Medicine clinic).
Weekly didactic sessions are based on the Geriatric Review Syllabus: these sessions review the geriatric syndromes, diseases and disorders commonly seen in the elderly, geriatric psychiatry and care for the elderly. Journal Club is held monthly
